joins us from the suitland metro station with more on this. >> reporter: good morning to both of you. metro at times has become a dangerous place to be. there have been attacks on trains, at the stations and on buses. and now, we're learning that bus operators, some of them, are deciding to pack heat. they secretly are arming themselves. here's one of the buses dun here. this is the -- down here. this is the line of buses soon coming up here. it's after hours right now. but soon will be seeing more buses line up. drivers have been spit on, they've been cussed out. threatened and assaulted. 400,000 passengers ride metro buses every day. the bus operators' union provided numbers to 9news now and in the past year, get this, 59 assaults against bus operators, 135 attempted assaults and 140 threats. our bruce johnson interviewed man who has been stabbed multiple times on the job. >> this came on the bus and said we going to kill you. so -- >> how many times did they stab you? >> four times. >> reporter: now he he says he has worked with metro on the buses as a driver for 28 years until h

to be legitimate. 9news now reporter lindsey mastis joins us at one of the schools in question in this report. >> reporter: i'm at noyes educational center. this is one of the schools that "usa today" focused on in their report saying that there was a high number of erasers here, that a lot of the answers were change from wrong to right. now, the school's acting school chancellor wants eight schools investigated by the d.c. inspector general now former chancellor michelle has been speaking out. she's saying the article lacks credibility. >> we told pbs that there were questions raised about the high number -- reed told pbs that there were questions about the high number. >> we were told that there were four classrooms that were identified where there was a very high erasure rate. in other words, incorrect answers were erased and correct answers were inserted. now, in those instances, in those four classrooms, we were also told that whoever administered the test, that having been a teacher, a counselor, whatever, those individuals had subsequently been removed. >> somebody is suspected in a hi

picture across the eastern us, you notice the rain, indiana, kentucky. over to chicagoland. but likely will affect a few flights. even detroit has a little bit of freezing rain. that could also cause problems in ohio. the first batch of moisture is staying north and west of us, but you get the idea things are going to be change over the next couple of days. 20s in new england. but 40s and even 52 in kentucky right now. the mild air is going to be moving in and we have temperatures 31, flying out visibility looks good now. 10 miles. looking around the eastern half of the country though, fine headed up to boston and new york and philly. but atlanta and chance of showers, chicago, detroit, cincinnati. charleston, pittsburgh, st. louis all looking at showers and even possible thunder. angie goff, 5:00 a.m.? >>> nice and green, that's why we have the light on still because overall the construction is starting to clear out of the area. we have the water main break though out in alexandria as a result. we're still losing edsall road between van dorn and south picket street, use duke street as

the east coast. still moderate snow here across central eastern northern new york state. for us though, skies have cleared. we're in the low 30s here. look at the 20s, even teens in cleveland. and a quick look at some local temps before we go. watch out. there will be some slick spots. temperatures at or below freezing. mid to upper 30s down south. it is 5:00 a.m. here's angie goff. >> we're back with this yellow light. we do have moderate conditions to tell you about. we're tracking early morning problems especially out in the cooksville area. we're taking a look at 70 headed westbound. this is near 97 due to an accident. we know the crews are out there right now trying to salt the road to make it passable. meanwhile, we want to check on the big picture and bring the shot out and focus on the beltway in maryland. it appears everyone is doing ok on the outer loop. it is on the inner loop though at georgia avenue approaching that exit that we have a disabled vehicle and it is taking away the right lane. let's take it back over to the maps. this time zoom on out and move the focus over t

in the nation. >> do we ever know this! kristin fisher joins us live from the most congested road in our region. drumroll, please... it is i-95 at northern virginia from quantico to the springfield interchange. kristin, anyone who drives that stretch understands exactly what we're talking about any time of day. >> absolutely. you know it, surae. this stretch of i-95 from quantico to springfield is actually 24 miles. it should take normally just 24 minutes to drive. but this new study found the average drive time during the evening rush was get this, 86 minutes. that's more than three times as long as it should take normally in no traffic. hands down, this is the most congested roadway in our region. but what do you say? let's take a live look at the second and third most congested road in our region. the outer loop on the capital beltway in montgomery county is clocking in at number two during the morning commute and what do you know? the same stretch of the beltway takes third place during the evening commute. no study on traffic in the d.c. area is complete without talking about i-66. that i

's what's taking so long. crews telling us they're working hard. they're going to hopefully have all of this cleared before the bulk of the morning rush sets in. but until then, the inner loop at route 50, the ramp to head eastbound, it is shut down. let's move it over to our maps, other parts of the region not looking bad as we take a wide view of the area. now, we're going to zoom into the outer loop and leave the outside live from the colesville road 29 exit over to 270, pretty much looks like this. all of your lanes wide open. let's move it back to the map. our real time sensors tracking that southbound trip, a lot of green on the screen outside. let's show you father hurley from this point down past germantown and down to the split. looks like pretty much a smooth ride. finally, we'll wrap it up with your travel times beginning in virginia from the fairfax county to the parkway. your inner loop checking out fine toward the dulles toll road. the toll road not too shabby about seven minutes approaching the capital beltway. more ahead on the fuel spill and the cleanup. >> residents

of the victim say his death was the result of a dispute between him and one of his neighbors. they tell us that he was a security guard at the boulevard at capitol center. he leaves behind three young children. >>> an amber alert is over. >> investigators say the children were found safe and sound this morning. 9news now reporter surae chinn joins us from northeast d. c. with the latest on the case. >> reporter: we have just learned moments ago that the children are safe and sound. that is the main point this morning. that they are safe. we don't know exactly where they are, but they were found just a mile from here. this is where the children were apparently taken from. police saying by gunpoint by the father, we are just learning this just after 4:00 a.m., they were found when police were alerted. they had been found just a mile off kendall street northeast. 22-year-old robert anthony ii is the father that was taken into custody, but very scary from last night. police saying that at about 9:30 last night, the two children, 2-year-old robert and his 10-month-old sister taken by gunpoint h
